MADISON, WI and ST CLOUD, MN (WSAU) — The Badger Men’s Hockey team outshot Michigan 40-37 but fell 6-2 in the final meeting of the season between the Big Ten rivals.
Jesper Peltonen and Dominick Mersch both tallied goals for the Badgers, with Mersch’s giving Wisconsin a brief 2-1 lead before Michigan took control late in the game.
Cameron Rowe took the loss in net for Wisconsin.
Wisconsin falls to 6th place in the Big Ten standings following the weekend sweep and extends their losing streak to four games. They’ll be back in action next weekend for a series against Ohio State.
The Badger Women scored a shutout win over St. Cloud State University on Saturday 4-0. Makenna Webster led the charge with three goals in the contest including one less than one minute into the game.
Brette Pettet also scored in the contest. Daryl Watts recorded three assists in the contest (one on each goal scored by Webster) while Casey O’Brien added two helpers.
Kennedy Blair made 18 saves in the win.
Wisconsin sites in a tie for second in the WCHA standings, which this year are based on points percentage instead of total points won. They will stay in the Twin Cities this weekend to play a makeup game with St. Thomas on Monday. The Badgers and Tommies had a series in Madison that was canceled due to COVID-19 protocol within the UST program earlier this month.
