WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of shooting another man last Friday is now being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
Richard Mason appeared in a Marathon County courtroom via videoconference on Monday where a judge found probable cause to move the case to an initial appearance later this week.
Mason is accused of approaching another man in the 1400 block of Emter Street last Friday and shooting him once in the abdomen. The victim fell to the ground, and a witness said they saw Mason standing over them, continuing to point the gun at them for a few minutes.
The victim was able to go to a nearby home for help, while Mason took off in a vehicle registered to him. That vehicle was found on Lake View Drive, where Mason was arrested without incident.
Police are referring charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide and aggravated assault to the Marathon County District Attorney’s office. Mason will return to court on February 4th.
An update on the victim’s condition has not been provided.
