WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The project itself is still a few years away from moving dirt, but the city of Wausau is still looking for input on how to improve a stretch of Stewart Avenue from South 48th Avenue to South 72nd Avenue.
A public open house is being held Monday evening to discuss the project and allow residents to submit their ideas from 4 to 6 PM at Wausau City Hall. Officials say they’ll provide information about the purpose of the project along with real estate needs and will answer resident’s questions about the proposal.
The roadway, which connects several residential neighborhoods to the city’s business park and westernmost access off Highway 29, is due for widening and the instillation of curb and gutter in some areas. Plans also call for a ten foot multi-use trail along the north side and the replacement or improvement of city sanitary sewers and watermain facilities.
The pavement is also considered to be deteriorating and the turn signals at 72nd Avenue are also in need of repair.
It’s the second public comment session that the city has held regarding the project since it was first announced in the summer of 2021. The current timeline calls for the design phase to wrap up by the end of 2023, with work to begin in the spring of 2024.
