WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A Warrens man arrested on suspicion of a decade-old sexual assault was found not guilty Thursday morning following a two-day jury trial.
Jesse Winker was arrested in early 2020 on suspicion of having sexual contact with a five-year-old victim between 2007 and ’08.
Court proceedings began on Wednesday with jury selection and witness interviews. Proceedings wrapped at about 4 PM, and closing arguments occurred Thursday morning.
The jury was dismissed for deliberations shortly before 10:30 AM. They returned with the not guilty verdict shortly after 11 AM.
It’s unclear what led officers to arrest Winker on suspicion of the charges more than ten years after the alleged incidents occurred. He had been held on bond in the case but was relieved of that following Thursday’s result.
