WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The suspect in last Friday’s shooting incident in Wausau had his cash bond increased to a quarter-million dollars today by a Marathon County judge.
Richard Mason had his initial appearance today where he entered a not guilty plea to a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed weapon, but did not plea to the felony count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide. Judge LaMont Jacobson then increased his bond to $250,000.
Investigators say Mason was arguing with another man outside a home on Myron Street when he pulled a gun from behind his back and shot him, yelling “you ruined my life.” A witness says he also stood over the victim, continuing to point the gun, before taking off in his vehicle.
Police were able to catch up to Mason a few blocks away and arrested him without incident. The victim was taken to a hospital, police have not provided an update on his condition.
Mason’s bond had initially been set at $100,000. The 28-year-old will return to court on February 9th for a review hearing. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for the 14th.
