MADISON, WI and COLUMBUS, OH (WSAU) — The Wisconsin women’s hockey team was able to shake off Friday’s loss to Minnesota-Duluth with a 5-1 result on Saturday to split their weekend set.
Daryl Watts recorded a hat trick in the game by the midway point of the second period. Her goals were sandwiched around a tally from Makenna Webster that built a 4-0 lead for the Badgers by the end of the second.
The Bulldogs did get one back by the midway point of the third, but that was canceled out by a Caitlin Schneider goal to close the game.
Kennedy Blair went the distance in net, making 26 saves.
With the weekend split Wisconsin drops to 3rd place in the WCHA standings behind Ohio State and Minnesota. They’ll host MSU Mankato for two next weekend.
The Badger men fell 6-2 to Ohio State on Saturday with goals from Sam Stange and Mathieu De St. Phalle.
Goaltenders Cameron Rowe and Jared Moe split duties for the game with Rowe allowing four goals on 17 shots. Moe made 19 saves on 21 shots faced.
Both goalies were on the ice for about 30 minutes. Rowe was tagged with the loss.
The Badgers continue Big Ten play later this week with a Thursday-Friday set against Notre Dame. Both games will be heard on WSAU.
