WESTON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The D.C Everest Dance Team won the state Division 1 championship on Saturday.
It’s the second year in a row they claimed the state title; last year they won the championship with a virtual performance.
But this year, they headed to LaCrosse for the big stage. The team practiced, their warm ups, walkouts and routine in preparation. With a young roster, it was the first time 16 of them had been to state, being led by three seniors, and came out on top in a tough division.
Head coach Renee Buchholz said, “even though it was the majority of the 16 of them going out there for the first time, we used our expertise from our senior and junior athletes and let them be the confidence we knew they wanted to instill in they took that leadership and ran with it.”
The team was greeted with a first responders parade down Grand Ave Sunday, an experience they’ll never forget.
Senior Liberty Christianson said, “It’s really cool I never imagined my goal was one state championship and so having two is….exceeding all my expectations.”
