WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Sentencing has been set for a Wausau man who pled guilty to shooting and killing his friend during a night of drinking.
David Anselmo will be sentenced on April 13th after he entered the plea to one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a firearm last week. In exchange for the plea, one count of operating a firearm while intoxicated was dismissed but read into the record.
According to Anselmo, he was examining the gun to see if it had a bullet in the chamber. As he was pulling the slide back, his finger slipped and accidentally pulled the trigger. The shot struck and killed 19-year-old Trey Wilcox.
Witnesses say the gun was being passed around during the party and did not have a magazine in it at the time of the shooting.
