WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Central Wisconsin came through in a big way for the 2022 WDEZ Country Cares for Kids Radiothon.
The two-day, 24-hour fundraiser brought in $189,372 to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. The mark surpasses last year’s total of around $185,000.
Money raised goes directly to St. Jude to help fund their research projects to help cure childhood cancer and other diseases. The money will also help pay for expenses for families who utilize the hospital, so they can focus on providing support for their children as they go through treatment.
No family ever receives a bill from St. Jude, as the hospital provides food and housing along with their services.
The $189,000 is the largest amount that the fundraiser has generated since topping the $200,000 mark in 2020. All told the event has brought in over $2 million in its 21-year history.
WDEZ and the Midwest Communications family also raise money for St. Jude by hosting a kickball tournament each August. Details of this year’s event will be announced later.
