STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The UWSP womens wrestling team hosted the Northwest Regional Qualifer on Sunday and six Pointers advanced to Nationals.
Jade Herzer and Tabitha Breitrick both qualified at 170, Abby Nelson at 116, Megan Struble at 136 and Brooke Thurber & Kelly Enriquez at 101.
The NCWWC National Championships take place in Adrian Michigan starting March 4th.
The UWSP mens swimming & diving team won their 22nd straight WIAC Championship on Saturday in Brown Deer, Wi. The Pointer womens team finished 3rd.
The UWSP softball team swept a pair of doubleheaders from Marian and St. Norbert to open the season. The games were played in the Hodag Dome in Rhinelander.
On Friday the Pointers topped Marian 4-2 and 6-0. Maddie Candre had four hits including including homers in both games. Makenna Tkach had four hits on the day and also earned a win and a save. She had 11 K’s in 7.2 innings pitched. Abby Van Beek picked up a win and a save with 10 K’s over 6.1 innings.
The Pointers stayed hot on Saturday with 12- & 10-0 wins over St. Norbert. Jesse Klicker had five hits on the day. Becca Geiyer had four hits and five RBIs. Tkach and Van Beek were sterling on the mound again and Tenley Gassner tossed a perfect inning in her collegiate debut.
The Pointers, now 4-0, will return to action March 3rd in Peoria Illinois against Augustana.
