WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) Aspirus is adding a new helicopter to its air-ambulance fleet.
Medevac Air 2 is the second in Aspirus’ fleet. It will be stationed in Mosinee.
Air One will be stationed in Woodruff to give hospitals a much wider area of service they can be called into.
Hospital officials said when it comes to life flights, seconds matter and having a second crew ready is invaluable. “Patients that are flying are in the most critical of condition and we want to be able to meet those local community needs and get the patient to the right hospital at the right time,” said Jason Keffelen, Aspirus Medevac System Director.
Hospital officials said flight crews average one or two trips per day, per aircraft, as long as the weather is good.
The helicopter comes as part of the Aspirus-Ascension merger.
