MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – On Tuesday morning a group of about two dozen people in Merrill gathered to support the trucker convoy.
Drivers in Central Wisconsin said they are concerned with how the pandemic has been handled. “It’s just well over-played. It’s done, it’s over with, it’s time to get back to normalcy,” protestor Geri Jacobsen told WAOW-TV. “I work in a nursing home so I got to see firsthand how hard it is to allow people to die on their own, that’s not right. They didn’t allow families to say goodbye so that kind of hit home.”
There are no statewide mask or vaccine mandates in Wisconsin currently, and haven’t been in nearly a year. Many mandates nationwide have been lifted, but protestors said they believe that could change.
“I mean we do see the lifts that are coming upon, it’s great but it could all be back tomorrow. We just want to make sure that cannot happen and whoever is keeping that going needs to answer for those actions,” said William Fisher, Organizer of the Wisconsin People’s Convoy.
A small portion of the Merrill group will be driving through Madison to Indianapolis, where they will stay for a couple of days before making the final stretch to Washington, D.C.
