MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Marshfield Utilities says they’re not trying to refund you.
In a Facebook post this week, the utility says they’ve received reports that someone is trying to scam customers into turning over bank account information as part of a refund for being overcharged for water and other services.
According to Marshfield Utilities, the targeted customers were told they were due a $50 credit, and would also receive some smaller monthly credits for the next few billing cycles. To receive the phony credits, the customers needed to provide their bank account information.
Marshfield Utilities officials say they will not ask for bank account information over the phone and anyone with questions about the status of their account can contact Marshfield Utilities directly.
