WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — With freezing rain expected this evening into Saturday Wausau street crews are asking for your help to keep everyone safe.
Crews have been out sanding and salting roadways today in preparation for the conditions and will continue to do so as the situation warrants. While they are working, Kevin Koester says you can help by giving them space to do their job.
“Just keep your distance, and the hills. Don’t follow a plow truck right on his tail up a hill because if he loses it, it’s just not going to be good,” Koester tells WAOW TV. “So just give us room to work. We’ll get it done as quick as we can to get you going where you need to go.”
Your best bet is to stay off the roads while conditions are bad, meaning get all your shopping and other chores done before the rain starts. If you do have to be out, take it slow and allow plenty of stopping distance or following space between you and other cars.
Also make sure you take care of your own driveway and sidewalks, as they will likely get icy through the overnight.
