WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Marathon County Judge has moved up the trial for Michael Turner, who’s accused of shooting and killing another man in May 2021
The 45-year-old will now face a jury beginning August 24th, with the trial scheduled to conclude by September 2nd. Turner is accused of killing an unidentified 45-year-old man as he was sitting in a parked vehicle in Wausau on May 15th. The victim was able to go to a nearby business for help and was hospitalized, but died of his injuries in early June.
Turner then fled Wausau and was arrested in Marquette County after an attempt to locate was given for his vehicle.
Charges against him include first-degree intentional homicide and felony counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of THC.
Turner also faces one count of battery by prisoners for an incident that happened while he’s being held at the Marathon County Jail, that charge has been wrapped into the charges from the May 15th incident in Wausau.
The trial had originally been scheduled for two weeks between November 28th and December 9th. Court records do not give any indication as to why the dates were adjusted.
Turner returns to court on June 24th for a motion hearing and July 15th for a jury status hearing.
If found guilty on the homicide charge Turner faces a mandatory life sentence with only the possibility of parole to be considered.
