WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau’s Parks and Recreation Committee has approved a plan to allow the Central Wisconsin Off-Road Cycling Coalition to solicit RFPs for a proposed expansion of the bike park at Sylvan Hill.
“It would be an expanded skills area and some dirt jump areas up towards the top,” said City and County Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Jamie Polley.
The Colation says they have already raised the $16,000 needed to complete the project through membership dues and business partnerships. Meaning all the group is asking for is permission to solicit bids and select a contractor to complete the work. Aaron Ruff with CWOCC says they have helped build similar set tracks in other areas of the county, and it will cater to both new and experienced riders.
“It’s really meant as a skill-building area. New riders [or] people who just want to session the dirt jumps and do it quickly. We have a very similar skills area out at Ringle Trails,” said Ruff.
If all goes as planned, the new courses could be open by the end of 2023.
Also during Monday’s meeting parks officials announced that the tubing area at Sylvan Hill is officially closed as of this week. Warmer temperatures and steady rain over the weekend have deteriorated conditions on the hill. Officials noted that attendance over the weekend was light, and there was some ponding on the tracks.
