MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — Mosinee Mayor and Marathon County Supervisor Brent Jacobson has announced his intention to run for State Senate.
The Republican, who also works as a lawyer in Stevens Point, says he’s learned a lot since his last run for an Assembly seat was derailed by incumbent John Spiros and is ready to take another shot at a higher office, one that covers much more ground and people than his current post as Mayor and Supervisor.
“There’s going to be a lot of going door-to-door, talking to people at local county parties, parades, and events- just getting out there to meet people in the 29th District,” said Jacobson. “It is a very big district to cover but I look forward to doing it. That’s one of the great things about campaigns; win or lose you get to meet a lot of great people.”
Jacobson says Madison needs a dose of small-town values, which he feels he can offer based on his record as Mayor. “With little means, we have kept business in the city going and kept property taxes fairly stable. The kind of approach that can do that is just traditional fiscal conservative values- Madison could start doing that in a lot of areas and it doesn’t.
“I look forward to doing that with my partners in the legislature [if elected,” added Jacobson.
Jacobson previously ran for the 86th Assembly District seat in 2018, losing a Republican primary to Spiros. He also considered a run for the 7th Congressional District seat that was vacated by Sean Duffy in 2019 but decided against running.
