WESTON, WI (WSAU) — The D.C. Everest School Board has selected Dr. Casey Nye as their next Superintendent.
Nye was selected by unanimous vote of the Board of Education on Wednesday and currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Learning. He’s also previously served as the Middle School Principal for the district.
Board President Katie Felch said the district was fortunate to have two qualified candidates as finalists in the process, and also credited those who didn’t make it to the finalist round for helping them have a deep pool to draw from. “We had a big job to fill and we were very fortunate to have amased a great team here at the District; through all levels,” said Felch before the announcement was made.
“[We have] individuals who are very passionate about serving our needs in innovative ways; really setting us up for a tradition of excellence. We were very fortunate to have two internal candidates who embodied the traits I just said,” she added.
“D.C. Everest is a place I’ve proudly called home for the last 15 years. I’m grateful and humbled to continue to serve our amazing community, students and staff in this new role,” said Nye through a press release Wednesday evening. “We will continue our work to serve the needs of all learners and in doing so, build upon the #EverestPride tradition that makes the D.C. Everest community a great place to learn, work and live.”
Dr. Nye holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, a Master’s of Science degree in educational administration from the University of Wisconsin – Superior, and a Doctor of Education degree in educational leadership from Edgewood College. Nye will take over for Dr. Kristine Gilmore on July 1st.
Gilmore announced her retirement from the district at the beginning of the 2021-22 academic year.
The DCE School Board approved an internal selection process for a new superintendent in December 2021 and immediately began the search for qualified candidates. It included an internal application process; an open Q&A session informed by community input and facilitated by Dr. Mike Richie of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates; and interviews with the Board.
DCE’s Director of Student Services Jeff Lindell was also a finalist for the position.
