WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — Wisconsin Rapids Mayor Shane Blaser is giving spring election voters the same reminder that other municipal leaders are giving ahead of the April election in two weeks.
Return those absentee ballots either through the mail or in person at the clerk’s office.
“The conversations I’ve had with the Clerk say they need to come by mail or dropped off at the Clerk’s office,” said Blaser.
Voters can find more information about what’s on their ballot at myvote.wi.gov. That’s also where you can request an absentee ballot, or you can request a ballot through the clerk’s office.
Blaser says there will be at least one new face on the City Council as well following the April 5th election, which means the current City Council is going to finish its business up shortly after election day and before the new council is seated. Once that happens, he says there’s a major crash court for the new faces.
“The biggest part is making sure they understand the processes, how the meetings work, motions- those type of things,” said Blaser. “Also trying to understand what their role as a councilperson is.”
He describes that as being in charge of the budget and policy, what he calls “eye-level” things, and not the day-to-day operations of the city. Another important aspect for him is making sure the Alders know how to go through their meeting packets to pick out the important information before each meeting. “If they don’t understand something, then [they need to know] which department head to reach out to for more information is also part of that.”
Blaser himself is up for election this year with local business owner Nikkilas Robert Wix also throwing his name in the race.
