BOGOTA, COLUMBIA (MetroSource-WSAU) — Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has died; the band announced in an Instagram post on Friday night.
The Los Angeles Times reports the band is currently on tour in Colombia. The Foos are scheduled to perform at Lollapalooza Brazil on Sunday, but there’s no word on if the show will take place now. The band did not share his cause of death. He was 50.
The Foo Fighters were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame late last year. Hawkins joined the band in 1997 after frontman Dave Grohl asked who he should replace the Foo Fighters drummer with. Grohl was surprised when his friend recommended himself.
Hawkins played with Alanis Morissette and Sass Jordan before joining the Foo Fighters. He also had a side project called Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders before his death.
The Foo Fighters asked for fans to respect Hawkins’ family and their privacy at this time. He is survived by his wife and three children.
