PHOENIX, Az (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers announced the signing of pitcher Jose Urena to a minor league contract this week and on Wednesday added him to the 40 man roster.
He’s expected to pitch a bullpen session today and he shows the Brewers he’s healthy and ready to becomer a member of their bullpen.
Urena, and eight year major league vet, pitched for Detroit last season, starting 18 games and finishing 4-8 with a 5.81 ERA. He pitched six seasons in Miami. He was the Opening Day starter for the Marlins in 2018 & 2019.
Despite those lackluster numbers, GM David Stearns thinks he can “impact the major league team this year”.
Stearns says he also adds depth at the starting pitcher position in case of injury.
