WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Several polling locations in Wausau ran out of ballots for one or more wards on Tuesday.
The city prepared enough ballots to supply a 30% voter turnout rate. But by 4 PM 27% had cast ballots. That led to four out of the city’s six polling locations running out of ballots in at least one ward.
This increased voter wait times to up to 30 minutes at some locations. Thrive Church and Pilgrim Lutheran Church experienced the longest lines. “Suddenly, we get busy, and the whole place just goes crazy, it’s been crazy all day, like an avalanche of people,” said Brenda McGrath, Chief Inspector at Thrive Church.
She said replacement ballots were printed very quickly from the County Clerk’s office, and voters used a machine to vote in the meantime.
No voter who wanted to cast a ballot was turned away.
