WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A former Wausau babysitter accused of abusing multiple children that were in her care while running an unlicensed facility has had her trial delayed again.
Merisa Sell was supposed to have an eight-day trial beginning today for three felony charges of child abuse causing bodily harm, though court records indicate those were removed last month.
The 31-year-old was accused of shaking a 16-month-old girl in 2018 to the point where the child had bleeding on her brain. Other accusations date back as far as 2015 when a 4-month-old boy was also found to have bleeding on his brain after being in Sell’s care. Another parent told police she found bruising on her son that appeared to come from adult fingers.
Sell has a history of being fired from other daycare providers and has previously been investigated for child abuse. Additionally, she is also accused of failing to tell her clients that her daycare wasn’t properly licensed.
A scheduling conference will be held in the case on Wednesday.
This isn’t the first time that the trial against Sell has been delayed. She was supposed to go to trial in 2020, but that was put off by the COVID-19 pandemic.
