WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Wausau Police Department partnered with New Beginnings for Refugees in Wausau to furnish a home for refugees.
Two members of the department met with the refugee group to help move furniture into a house that will be available for a refugee family. One of the officers had previous experience with people from Afghanistan.
“I have experience from the U.S. Army in Afghanistan working with Afghans so I’m really excited to help them out and navigate them into our community in any way we can,” said Cody Holder, Wausau Police Department Liaison Officer for Refugees.
The house isn’t designated for a certain family at the moment but will be ready when the need arises. The partnership with Wausau police proved to be a blessing.
“They’ve been very helpful all along the way working with us, meeting with us in advance, and just willing to partner with us in any way possible so it’s been a great relationship and we’re happy to have their muscles today,” said Gwendolyn Paul, Executive Director of New Beginnings for Refugees.
The home was furnished with chairs, beds, sheets, tables, and couches.
