MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The Merrill School Superintendent has announced his retirement effective July 1st.
The Merrill School Board accepted Dr. John Sample’s retirement during a special meeting on Tuesday.
“After 34 years in public education, I knew it was time to make this personal transition,” said Sample. “While I was hoping to leave with our students receiving additional referendum support, I am still proud of the partnerships our district has established and maintained.”
Sample has been with the Merrill School District since 2008. He’s previously served as Director of Special Education/Pupil Services before becoming Superintendent in 2016.
A search for a new Superintendent will begin shortly. Sample is the second Superintendent of a Wisconsin Valley Conference school to announce their resignation this academic year. D.C. Everest’s Kristine Gilmore is also retiring this summer, and the district recently announced Dr. Casey Nye will step into the role in July.
