WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Changes likely are not coming to Marathon County’s marijuana policies.
Two county committees are now recommending no changes be made, including a decision made Wednesday by Health and Human Services. District Attorney Theresa Wetzsteon told the committee that the proposed changes really wouldn’t change much at all.
“Nothing about this change that was proposed was going to make a difference as far as relief for what’s already being done,” said Wetzsteon.
What had been discussed was lowering the citation for offenders to a set rate of $50, which was ultimately scrapped.
The low number of felony possession charges in the county also factored into the decision.

Wetzsteon also expressed concern about a “one size fits all” approach the proposed changes could create.
