MILWAUKEE, Wi (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers solved their shortage at the catcher position by acquiring two backstops via trades on Wednesday.
Milwaukee was left short after backup catcher Pedro Severino was suspended by major league baseball after testing postitive for a banned PED earlier this week.
First, the Brewers got veteran Victor Caratini in a deal with San Diego. They sent minor leaguers Korry Howell and Brett Sullivan to the Padres. The 28 year old Caratini is a former Cub and a switch hitter. He’s a career .242 hitter with 22 home runs.
In the second trade of the day the Brewers picked up Alex Jackson from Miami for minor leaguers Hayden Cantrelle and Alexis Ramirez. Jackson will report to AAA Nashville.
The Brewers open the regular season today at Chicago. Pre-game show at 12:45 on WSAU.
