STEVENS POINT, Wi (WSAU) — The 20th ranked UWSP baseball team took three of four from UW-La Crosse over the weekend including a 13 inning thriller won with a walk-off home run from Wausau native Payton Nelson.
That game had been halted by darkness on Saturday and was finished up on Sunday. That game finished 15-14 while the other scores Sunday were 2-0 & 13-3. The Pointers dropped Game 1 on Saturday 12-6.
Nelson finished with three RBIs on the day. Rhinelander native Bradley Comer had five hits on Sunday and drove in four runs.
Sidney Ferry, Casey Pickering & Stevens Point native JD Schultz picked up the wins on the mound.
The Pointers, now 17-3, will travel to De Pere on Wednesday for a doubleheader with St. Norbert.
The UWSP softball team went 2-2 on the weekend. They swept a non-conference DH at Grinnell in Iowa on Saturday, 5-1 & 10-6. They then dropped their conference openers to UW-La Crosse 6-5 & 11-6 on Sunday.
Abby Van Beek was the winning pitcher in both games on Saturday. She also had five hits and three RBIs. Meg Lawrence also had five hits and scored three times. Jessie Kicker & Van Beek had two hits each in game 2 on Sunday.
The Pointers, now 15-9 will host UW-Stout in a doubleheader on Friday.
