NEW YORK, NY (WSAU) – Officials in New York City have arrested Frank James, the man suspected of opening fire on a New York City subway station Tuesday morning.
James had recently moved out of Milwaukee, expressing his displeasure with the area in a series of social media posts. one such video shows James saying “as I leave the state of Wisconsin, about to be back in the state of Illinois, all I can say is good riddance and I will never be back again alive.” That video appears to be from last month.
James is believed to be the man who set off a smoke bomb and opened fire on the subway Tuesday morning.
Among the evidence tieing James to the incident is a U-Haul truck that was rented in his name. The keys to that truck were found in a backpack at the scene of the shooting.
Wednesday afternoon the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network released a wanted poster featuring James in collaboration with the New York Police Department. Shortly after that alert was issued, he was arrested in NYC. Anyone with additional information about James is asked to call 1-800-577-8477.
A total of 33 shots were fired in the incident. Ten people were hit, and five are in critical condition. Over a dozen others were injured in the stampede that followed.
The motive for the incident is unknown.
