WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Water Works Commission is set to debate the hiring of a consulting firm to help craft mitigation measures for PFAS chemicals in the city’s new drinking water treatment plant.
Six different firms including two from Central Wisconsin gave presentations to the Commission last week. But the Commission chose to delay a decision in the matter until this week.
All six of the firms are based in Wisconsin, with one in the Wausau area and one from Stevens Point.

The firm selected will help the city and Donohue & Associates as they continue planning for the facility, which is set to become the first of its kind in Wisconsin certified to remove the so-called forever chemicals.
City leaders are also continuing to distribute filters and pitchers to residents concerned about the chemicals, approving additional funding to help provide the items to those interested.
Many on the council added that they would like to phase out the distribution of bottled water in favor of the pitchers.
