WESTON, WI (WSAU) — Weston’s Village Board will consider a $45,700 proposal to conduct a PFAS removal study from one of their water wells.
According to tonight’s agenda packet, they are looking to partner with AECOM to test which treatment methods will best remove the chemicals from the water.
That includes both Granular Activated Carbon and Ion Exchange.
Officials add that their water treatment plant was built with room for a GAC system, meaning the system could be implemented without major renovations.
Weston is one of a handful of several local municipalities that have discovered the forever chemicals in their water supply. The village announced they would test for the chemicals just after Wausau announced they had found elevated levels in all six of their wells.
Officials announced in mid-March that two of their wells were taken offline due to elevated levels, bringing their levels down to below 20 parts per trillion. That’s below the mark endorsed by the Wisconsin DNR but was rejected by the Natural Resources Board this winter.
The discussion will take place as part of Monday’s Board of Trustees meeting. WSAU News will have more on this story following Monday’s meeting both on-air and online.
