CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – On week ago, Frank James put on a gas mask, set off a smoke grenade, pulled out a gun, and began shooting inside a crowded New York City subway car.
Motive: unknown. And any possible motive certainly includes a big mental health component. It’s the act of a madman.
One thing that needs to be investigated, and should be obvious, is whether this is an act of racial hatred. And that part of the story is likely to be swept under the rug. It’s unacceptable in today’s woke society to suggest that a black man might be filled with such hatred that he would target white people.
President Biden tells us, repeatedly, that white supremacy is the number one cause of domestic terror. Yet, six months apart, two major domestic terror incidents involved black suspects and white victims. Waukesha Christmas parade attacker, Darrell Brooks Junior, had dozens of social media posts and profanity-filled raps about how he hated white folks. And Frank James has a series of YouTube videos, some of them dating back 9 years, that show he was filled with racial hatred. In one video, from his time in Milwaukee, James films himself in the street yelling and cursing at white people walking past him. In another post, he says – quote – “I really want to kill them because they’re white.” His final YouTube post, a month before the subway shooting, he also talks about all whites being racist.
Yet, during the 30 hour manhunt when police were asking for the public’s help, most media reports withheld some critical information about who police were actually looking for: a black man. If we can’t even accurately describe a suspect, what are the chances that the next questions will even be asked: Did Frank James target white subway riders? And was racial hatred his motive?
