LA CROSSE, Wi (UWSP-WSAU) — UW-Stevens Point track and field freshman Rachel Krouse (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West) ran her first-ever collegiate 10,000-meter run and broke the school record at the Esten Challenge on Thursday night.
Her time of 35:21.11 was good for second place, less than two seconds behind the unattached runner that took first. Krouse broke the school record by more than 11 seconds, a mark that stood since 1988. Her time on Thursday was the seventh fastest time in DIII this year.
On the men’s side, Michael Kluz (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) placed 20th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:28.48.
The 10K was the only event contested on Thursday. The second day of the Esten Challenge begins at 10:30 a.m. on Friday (April 22).
