PITTSBURGH, PA (WSAU) — Andrew McCutchen drive in all the runs in a 3-2 Brewers win over Pittsburgh Thursday afternoon.
McCutchen, batting leadoff, went 3-4 with 3 RBI and a run scored on a first-inning solo home run, the only extra-base hit on the game. Cutch’s tater came on the game’s very first pitch.
Christian Yelich went 1-1 in a pinch-hit role, scoring the game-tying run in the top of the 9th. Kolten Wong scored the go-ahead run, part of a 2-4 day at the plate.
Both Yelich and Wong scored on a line drive to right field by McCutchen that barely got past the glove of the second baseman Josh VanMeter.
Freddy Peralta turned in a quality start allowing no earned runs and just three hits over six innings. Brad Boxberger allowed two runs in the 7th for his first blown save of the season.
Hoby Milner earned the win. Devin Williams picked up his first save of the season in place of Josh Hader who had worked in the previous two games. Though you wouldn’t know the difference looking at the box score blindly, Williams struck out the side on 12 pitches, three pitches long of an immaculate inning.
The comeback gives Milwaukee their second three-game sweep of the Pirates in two weeks. Milwaukee is now 13-7 on the season, and Pittsburgh falls to 8-11; 4.5 games behind the Crew in the Central.
The two sides won’t meet again for another two months beginning with a series at PNC Park starting June 30th. Pittsburgh then returns to American Family Field for three starting July 8th.
Milwaukee returns home for a set against the Chicago Cubs beginning Friday evening. Pregame coverage begins at 5:35.
All 30 MLB teams are in action today with just two of the 15 games being played tonight.
