WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A jury trial has been removed from the calendar for a 40-year-old Afghan refugee accused of misdemeanor 4th-degree sexual assault.
Matiullah Matie is accused of making unwanted advances toward a woman that was helping him and his family resettle.
On Thursday the defense and prosecution told Marathon County Judge Scott Corbett that they need more time for a “potential resolution” to the case. A pretrial conference was then scheduled for July 21st.
Matie is free on a signature bond under the condition that he have no contact with the vitcim and maintain absolute sobriety from alcohol and drugs.
The case had been scheduled for a one-day trial in late July. If found guilty Matie faces up to nine months in jail and $10,000 in fines.
