We continue our look back at the music of 50 years ago…..
It takes some confidence as a 21 year old member of a successful rock band to leave and strike out on your own. That’s exactly what guitarist Peter Frampton did in 1971. He left Humble Pie to do his own thing and the first solo LP, “Wind Of Change” appeared in 1972.
It’s certainly different than the raucous boogieing of Humble Pie and showed a more introspective and acoustic side to Frampton although the album does step out with some rock tracks as well.
The album doesnt start out well with three middling tracks to begin but it picks up with a cover of “Jumpin Jack Flash” that although much “cleaner” sounding than the Stones does bring forth a nice solo.
“It’s A Plain Shame”, “All I Wanna Be (Is By Your Side)” and “Alright” are standout tracks. Alright has the great piano and organ of Billy Preston along with Ringo on drums and Klaus Voorman on bass.
Other guests on the LP include Mick Jones & Mike Kellie from Spooky Tooth.
If you like Frampton you’ll dig this. If not, it may be too sacchrine for your tastes.
