WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Marshfield woman has avoided charges of homicide for her role in the killing of Christian Schauer in late 2020.
Audrey Benson pled guilty this week to hiding a corpse as part of a deal with the state that saw prosecutors dismiss a count of homicide.
The 21-year-old will serve four years in prison and three years on extended supervision.
Additional charges of resisting or obstructing an officer were dismissed as well. Benson was given credit for roughly one year and two months already served in jail. She will also have to complete treatment as deemed appropriate.
Benson is the first person to be sentenced in connection with Schauer’s death. Jared Carl faces sentencing for one count of first-degree intentional homicide in late July. His father, Shawn Carl, is scheduled to be tried for harboring or aiding a felon and obstructing an officer next February.
A final pretrial conference for Shawn Carl is scheduled for December 20th.
