STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Hundreds of families enjoyed a day on the water in Stevens Point Saturday morning.
The 13th Annual Cops-N-Bobbers event came back larger than ever. A record breaking day for the annual event as 200 children participated in the day of fishing.
Cops-N-Bobbers is a community fishing event that provides all Portage County law enforcement officers a chance to interact with children in the area and build positive relationships.
“Lots of the time when officers are talking to kids it is on a call or it is a stressful situation for them and so we really want to have a positive interaction,” said organizer Eric Koespell.
He said over the years they have seen children who participated in the fishing day years ago have moved into a careers in law enforcement and criminal justice.
