STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — People were “pickled” with excitement at Mead Park Monday afternoon. Stevens Point city officials and community members cut the ribbon at the new pickleball courts.
What used to be tennis courts were converted into six pickleball courts.
Mayor Mike Wiza says it’s been very popular even before the grand opening. “Every time I’ve driven by here since we unlocked the gates about a week and a half ago. People have been swarming to play pickleball here,” explained Wiza. “They even got me involved a little bit. We weren’t really keeping score because I’m not good, but I’m going to learn.”
Wiza says the redevelopment process started about over a year ago and met little opposition along the way.
