STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Drinking water in the City of Stevens Point shows barely detectable levels of PFAS, according to results released by Mayor Mike Wiza on Tuesday.
Over 100 samples were taken, with all but four resulting in “no detection” results. The remaining four showed levels near 1 part per trillion, with the highest reading at 1.2 PPT. All of those readings fall well below the EPA and Wisconsin Natural Resources Board’s standard of 70 PPT, and below the DHS’ suggested level of 20 PPT
“We are very proud of our water quality and pleased that these test results show levels of PFAS as not detected or far below the levels that draw concern, said Mayor Mike Wiza. “We’ve been
very proactive in addressing any threats to our groundwater and will continue to protect our resources,” said Mayor Mike Wiza.
Results have been posted on the city’s website.
PFAS contamination has become an issue for several water utilities in Central Wisconsin including in Wausau where all municipal wells show levels above the 20 PPT mark. Other communities like Weston and Rib Mountain have shut down wells due to contamination.
