WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – All locations of The Store will soon require customers to pay for gas at the pump or pre-pay inside with cash by this weekend.
The change comes as Wausau Police say one of its locations has seen an increase in people leaving without paying.
“I’ve noticed a rise in reports of intentional gas skips. It’s not uncommon for us to be dispatched to calls where someone may have mistakenly forgotten to pay for their gas,” said Andrew Kutchenriter, a patrol officer with the department.
If you think someone did not pay for their gas, police recommend taking note of their license plate and alerting law enforcement. People who drive off can have their drivers’ licenses suspended under Wisconsin law.
Kwik Trip changed all of its stores to pay at the pump or pre-pay earlier this year.
