WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A body was recovered from the Wisconsin River in Wausau around 9:30pm Tuesday night.
The remains matched an eyewitnesses description of a man who jumped into the water along Bridge Street.
Police say the person is an African-American male.
No name is being released at this time; the body has been taken to a medical examiner to be identified.
Police believe it was a suicide attempt. The circumstances surrounding the death are still being investigated.

A Marathon County Dive Team has been called in to search the Wisconsin River near Bridge Street in Wausau for a report of someone who may have jumped in the water from the bridge.
WAOW TV reports that first responders and divers have staged in the area near Wausau on Water (WOW), but haven’t provided many details. They are asking residents to avoid the area, including Bridge Street, if possible.
Officers couldn’t say if the search was the result of attempted suicide, though some eyewitnesses say that may be the case.
Crews have an added sense of urgency to find the person, as unsettled weather is forecast for Wednesday.
