WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Merrill man has been found not guilty on charges of vehicular homicide for a crash that killed his passenger nearly five years ago.
Douglas Stone was facing charges of homicide by use of a vehicle and operating while under the influence of a controlled substance, causing injury for the crash, which killed one person and injured another.
Investigators say Stone was attempting a left turn while northbound on County Road W, causing him to turn into the path of a southbound vehicle.
According to the driver of the second vehicle Stone did not signal his intent to turn, and there was no way to avoid the collision.
The passenger in Stone’s vehicle said that the group had been at two different bars prior to the crash, and that Stone had consumed one drink at each bar.
