MILWAUKEE, Wi (WSAU) — It appears that the tenure of outfielder Lorenzo Cain in Milwaukee has come to an end. The Brewers designated the 36 year old for assignment on Saturday.
It means he is removed from the 40 man roster and can now be traded or released within seven days. Cain said he will consider his options but is leaning toward retirement.
Cain had struggled this season in the final year of a five year deal he signed back in 2018. He was hitting .179 with one homer and nine RBIs.
The Brewers waited until Saturday to release Cain as he has now reached the 10 year mark of his career and is fully vested for his pension.
He started his career with Milwaukee when he was drafted in 2004. He was later traded to Kansas City where he won a World Seriers title in 2015.
Cain was replaced on the roster by AAA player Jonathon Davis.
