A court appearance with state and national interest is on tap for Friday.
The suspect accused of sexually assaulting and killing ten-year-old Lily Peters in Chippawa County earlier this year is scheduled to appear for a status conference today.
The 14-year-old, still only known by his initials C.P.B. is accused of taking the girl into a wooded area as she was riding her bike home from her aunt’s house, then killing her and returning home.
Many details from the incident remain unknown, though the suspect is said to have returned to the scene of the crime in an attempt to hide Peters’ body better. He’s been charged with first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree sexual assault. He is currently being charged in adult court, though his defense team may petition to have the case moved into the juvenile system. That would be at the discretion of the judge.
The complaint in the case was recently unsealed though some information remains redacted. Should the case remain in adult court, the name of the suspect will likely be released.
Friday’s hearing is only a status conference, meaning there is no guarantee of any significant action or movement in the case. Should anything materialize, we will have updates throughout the day both on-air and online.
