MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) Strawberry season is underway at Engelberry Farm in Lincoln County.
Owner Michael Matushak said the season started last week Friday and will last about three weeks.
“We go roughly three weeks unless the weather messes with us, which it did last year, we got five inches of rain in three days and took the crop out, so you hope that the conditions are favorable for getting the crop picked off, so that’s the important part,” said Matushak.
He said they roll with whatever happens with the weather.
They have about eight acres of fields. When open, hours are 7am to 1pm, but that can change if they get picked out for the day. “But we could be picking the next day, we’re maybe just waiting for just one more field to ripen up one more day it’s just communication, calling all the time, so if you’re coming later, you have to call to make sure we’re still, still open.”
