WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — As of Wednesday afternoon, officials with the Wausau School District are still waiting to receive a letter of resignation from Board Member Ka Lo.
Both the District Clerk and Board President Jim Bouche confirmed to WSAU News that they haven’t received anything from Lo, who announced her intent to resign on Monday in a statement to the media. Therefore they can’t consider the position vacant, which puts any potential action to file the role on hold until a formal announcement is received.
Bouche says once a formal resignation is received from Lo, the board plans to fill the vacancy by voting another member onto the body from a pool of applicants, as outlined in policy 142.5 of the district’s handbook. Whoever is voted into that seat by the board would then serve the remainder of Lo’s term, which runs through April 2023.
It’s unclear when Lo plans to send her resignation to the board. She was not present during Monday’s meeting of the Education and Operations committee.

Lo said her primary reason for resigning was so she could take an opportunity outside of Wausau, meaning she would no longer be able to “represent the constituency.” In her statement, she also accused some on the board of being toxic, disrespectful, and indifferent. She added that the behavior had caused her to consider quitting before, but she was encouraged to keep going by some in the community who didn’t feel their views were represented on the body.
