We continue our look back at the music of 50 years ago…..
How do you describe the music of Van Morrison? The singer-songwriter released his sixth LP, “St. Dominic’s Preview” on July of 1972 and it’s another gem.
I’ve always loved “Tupelo Honey” and “Moondance” as my favorite Morrison records but this is close behind.
I think it’s all of the different genres that Morrison slides in and out of, especially his love of R&B. It’s that mixture that makes listening to a Van Morrison album such a treat, even if he is a bit of a curmudgeon.
The album wastes no time in bringing a smile to your face with the song “Jackie Wilson Said (I’m in Heaven When You Smile)”. It’s great, but then there really isnt a weak track on this album. From the soulfulness of “I Will Be There”, to the fast paced “Gypsy” to the more experimental “Listen To The Lion” and “Almost Independence Day”.
The critics loved it and it went to #15 on the charts.
Put this on and be transported….you can’t ask for more from any album.
