ANTIGO, WI (WSAU) — A case of monkeypox has been confirmed in Langlade County.
Health officials did not release any information about the person, including where they live, if they had recently traveled, or how they may have contracted the disease. Though they are working to notify anyone who may be a close contact with the case.
Health officials say despite the news, the risk to the public remains low. Though they are asking residents to be aware of the symptoms of the disease including:
- Fever
- Chills
- Swollen Lymph nodes
- Muscle aches
- Headache
- Exhaustion
- New, unexplained rashes that develop into hard, round, or pus-filled skin lesions.
It’s the 4th case of the disease reported in the Badger state, and the first outside of Madison or Milwaukee. Monkeypox spreads through direct skin contact or by sharing a surface with someone who’s had the disease.
