We continue our look back at the music of 50 years ago…..
It produced a #1 hit that was also nominated for Grammy Record and Song of the Year..it got a Grammy nomination for Album of The Year…Billboard called it “brilliant and divirsified. It was Neil Diamond’s eighth studio LP “Moods” released in July 1972.
The hits were here…”Song Sung Blue” ( I bought the 45 in the vending machine at Bob’s Musical Isle), “Play Me” and “Walk on Water” but that wasnt all.
The playful “Porcupine Pie” and “Gitchy Goomy” showed another side of the troubadour who could sometimes come off as too stodgy and serious.
There is also some beautiful work on things like “Canta Libre” and “Morningside”.
I don’t want a steady diet of Diamond, but like John Denver and others working the early 70’s pop vein. I can take them in small doses. And “Song Sung Blue” is a pop gem.
